Are the stereotypes about individuals from the southern US true? roadtrip with boyfriend soon to the south US.?

I grew up in Texas (many years ago) and remember Texans as being quite friendly. Stay out of the bars in rough sections of town and you should have no problems. Canadians are regarded as slightly exotic and most interesting. Have a nice trip.
