Why do pubes grow so fast?

Why do pubes(for me at least) grow faster than normal hair and more of it. I have little fine hairs on my arms...why doesn't my body focus on producing arms on my arms instead or my sideburns. Is there anyway to rid of pubes without it becoming thicker? If shaving/trimming makes it thicker, then wouldn't it also work to get thicker eyelashes.
